From the Stamford Guardian, 25th April 1890: STRUCK DOWN AT WORK: - On Tuesday morning, April 15th, about seven o'clock as John James Cunnington, in the employ of Mr. Miles was in the wood yard he was seen to fall on a piece of wood and as he did not get up again one of the men, named Alfred Stapleton, went to him and raised him up. He said he could not stand as he had no strength in his legs, and it turned out that he had had a paralytic stroke. He was taken home in a cart and Dr. Dain fetched. Cunnington was sensible and could speak, but died on Sunday morning. Deceased was a powerful looking man strong and hearty.
From the Stamford Mercury, 25th April 1890: DEATH: At King's Cliffe, 19th April, John James Cunnington, aged 43.
"19th April" was actually Saturday not Sunday but which newspaper is correct? Burial records show that John James Cunnington, aged 43, was buried on 22nd April. There is no identifiable grave marker.

From Helena Rose Cutforth(Cunnington) Hcutforth@aol.com 06 April 2003
My Grandfather was Edgar Cunnington - married Laura Blanche Fox - one son
Roland Edgar (my father) married Irene Saunders in 1942 (my mother).
My elder sister Judith Mary and myself Helena Rose went with my father
after his divorce to live with our Grandparents - having no contact at
all with our mother and the other children until after my fathers death.
I now live at Easton-on-the-Hill close to my sister Judith. My father
was an only child. We know very little about Barbara - except that after
my parents were divorced she lived with my mother and later married a
Peter Pitman.
My Grandfather's family lived at the George Farm - London Road - Stamford
(maybe it came under Wothorpe in those days) and worked on the Burghley
Estate in the Forestry for over 50yrs. His father managed the George Farm
for the Cecil family (Exeter). The farm is still there today and after my
parents were divorced we lived at the Bottle Lodges - the London Road
entrance to Burghley House.
