""John Cunnington of Spalding was the deacon of Ebenezer, Love Lane, Strict Baptist Chapel there until 1830,
when, after a dispute, he left to found Bethesda Strict Baptist Chapel in the town.
He appears to have died, or at least to have left this group, by 1839,
as he was not among the first trustees, appointed that year, of its new Chapel.
He is described in non-chapel sources as a builder or architect.
He was connected with William East, a fellow builder, who also left Love Lane in 1830,
in the rebuilding of the General Baptist Chapel in Spalding in 1811,
and was described as an architect on the plans for the rebuilding
of St John the Baptist Church of England, Whaplode Drove, in the first phase around 1813-1820.""
